Aman Venice, Venice, Italy

A Palazzo on the Grand Canal

Sixteenth-century Venice, still intact. Frescoed ceilings by Tiepolo, Rococo gilding, and Jean-Michel Gathy interiors that have the sense to stay quiet underneath all of it. There are private gardens, which in this city is close to unheard of.

A Short Walk from San Marco

Close enough to Piazza San Marco to walk before the crowds arrive, and far enough to come back to silence. Arrive by water, as the palazzo was built to be arrived at, and the city rearranges itself around you.

The Rooms

Twenty-four rooms and suites across a palazzo built for a family that expected to be looked at. Frescoed ceilings, silk, and Gathy interiors that leave the eighteenth century alone. Several open onto the canal; the quietest face the gardens.

The Table, and the Water

Dining runs from the piano nobile to the garden, which almost nothing else in Venice can offer. Arrivals and departures are by boat, and the hotel will take you out into the lagoon early enough that you have it to yourselves.
