The Practice

What working with a luxury travel agency looks like

One advisor, from the first message to the day you come home.

Elevida Luxury Journeys is a gay-owned travel agency in Gulfport, Florida, planning private journeys and small-ship cruises for clients across the United States. Not a call center, not a different name on every email, and not a form that disappears into somebody's queue.

What we sell is judgment rather than inventory. Which ship, which hotel, which two weeks of the year, and occasionally which trip is not worth what it would take to do properly. Every number we put in front of you comes from a live rate or a real sailing on a real date.

Most of our clients travel a few times a year and would rather spend an evening at dinner than three evenings comparing cabin categories. If you want to see how we think before you speak to anyone, The Journal carries our destination notes and trip write-ups.

The First Question

Cruise or land

Most people answer it wrong for themselves. It is worth a conversation.

When a ship is the answer

A cruise suits you if you want to unpack once and still wake up somewhere new, or if dining as a couple in a hotel restaurant every night wears on you. A small ship of two or three hundred guests is a different proposition entirely from a floating resort of three thousand. Our cruise collection runs from the Mediterranean through the Caribbean and the South Pacific.

When land is the answer

Land suits you if you would rather go deep than wide, or if the thing you want is a place rather than a route. It is usually better value for a solo traveler too, because a hotel room costs the same whether one or two of you sleep in it. Our destination journeys cover Greece, Japan, Italy and Puerto Rico.

What preferred partner status adds

Breakfast for two daily, a property credit toward dinner or the spa, an upgrade where one is available, and early check-in where the hotel can manage it. All at the same nightly rate you would pay booking direct. On cruises it is often onboard credit. It is the reason booking through a travel agent is almost always better value than booking it yourself.

Who It Is For

Nothing has to be explained

Elevida is gay-owned, and most of our clients are LGBTQ+ couples and solo travelers. The hotel knows before you arrive, the guide knows before you meet, and the room has one bed in it because that is what you asked for. We have written about how we vet destinations on our LGBTQ+ luxury travel page.

We are welcoming to all, and we mean it plainly. Friends, parents and straight couples travel with us regularly. What every client has in common is wanting the trip done properly rather than cheaply.

Answered

Questions we get asked

What does a travel advisor charge?

Nothing on a cruise or a hotel booking. We are paid by the supplier at no cost to you, which is why the rate is the same as booking direct but comes with amenities attached. On complex custom land itineraries we charge a planning fee, quoted up front before any work begins.

How far ahead should I book?

Six to twelve months for a cruise gets you the cabin you want at the fare you want. For peak-season land travel, Japan in cherry blossom or the Greek islands in high summer, twelve months is not too early. We will tell you honestly when a date is too tight to do well.

Do you book airfare?

Yes, and we show it as its own line so you can see exactly what it costs and lift it out if you would rather use miles. We will also tell you when a routing is a bad idea.

Where are you based?

Gulfport, Florida, in the Tampa Bay area. Most of the work happens by text and email, but it does mean you have a real agency with a real address behind your trip. Read more about the practice or see the full list of questions.
