Aman Rosa Alpina, Dolomites, Italy

The Dolomites, Reopened

A storied alpine hotel in San Cassiano, taken back to the studs and rebuilt as an Aman. Larch, stone and glass, with the Dolomites filling every window. In winter the skiing starts at the door; in summer the same slopes turn to meadow.

Alta Badia, Both Seasons

This corner of the Italian Alps is as serious about its food as its slopes, and the hotel sits in the middle of it. Long lunches, longer light, and a spa built for the hours after the mountain.

Rooms Facing the Peaks

Jean-Michel Gathy designed the rooms and suites to face either the village or the forest, with the Dolomite peaks beyond. Larch, loden and stone, and the restraint to let a UNESCO mountain range do the talking.

Four Ways to Eat

Breakfast in the Heritage Room over the forest, family-style Italian on The Grill terrace, shabu shabu at Enju, and cocktails after the mountain. Alta Badia takes food as seriously as it takes snow, and the hotel sits in the middle of that.
