River or Ocean, They Are Not the Same Holiday

Scenic’s river Space-Ships and its ocean Discovery Yachts share a name, a philosophy and very little else. The rivers are about the towns you tie up in the middle of; the Eclipse yachts are about reaching places that need an ice-strengthened hull, a helicopter or a submersible to see properly.

People arrive asking for “a Scenic cruise” and mean one or the other. Sorting out which, before anything is priced, is where most of the value is.

Europe’s Rivers

All-Suite, and Genuinely All-Inclusive

Every stateroom on the river fleet is a suite, and the fare already covers the excursions, the drinks, the tipping and the transfers. Scenic Freechoice lets you pick your excursion in each port rather than take the one you are given, and Scenic Enrich puts on events that are not otherwise open — a private concert, a dinner somewhere that does not normally do dinners.

The Douro has its own ship, Scenic Azure, because the locks on that river will not take the standard hull.

The Discovery Yachts

Scenic Eclipse I and II are small ocean yachts with an ice-strengthened hull, and they carry equipment most ships do not: helicopters and a submersible on the sailings that are licensed for them.

That equipment is the reason to choose them, and it is also the thing to check before booking — availability varies by sailing and by region. We confirm what is actually carried on your departure rather than what the brochure carries in general.
