The Advisor's Edge
HX is not about simply checking off remote destinations. It is about understanding them.
With a long expedition heritage, a science-led approach, and a more relaxed onboard atmosphere than many traditional luxury lines, HX appeals to travelers who want the world's wildest places paired with meaningful context, strong environmental values, and genuine exploration.
Elevida helps determine whether HX is the right expedition fit, and which destination, ship, and style of voyage make the most sense for you.
Legacy
A 130+ year expedition heritage rooted in some of the most storied polar and remote-region journeys.
Science
Onboard Science Centers, expert lectures, and citizen science projects that deepen the experience.
Style
A more casual, Scandinavian-inspired expedition experience with premium comfort and no formal pretense.
Why HX
Four distinctions that shape the HX experience, from the waterline to the ship's library.
I.
A 130-year expedition lineage, built around small-ship exploration and deep regional knowledge. HX's expedition teams are drawn from the sciences, the arts, and polar veterans who have spent careers in the places you are sailing toward.
II.
Among the first to eliminate heavy fuel oil in polar waters, the first cruise operator to remove single-use plastics across the fleet, and the builder of the world's first hybrid-electric expedition ships. Sustainability is structural, not seasonal.
III.
Scandi-chic interiors of oak, wool, and stone. Regionally-inspired dining, sauna and spa, aft infinity pools with hot tubs. No formal dress code, no black-tie nights, no costume. Just quiet, premium comfort.
IV.
The Science Center is the heart of the ship, a working studio for lectures in climate, history, and wildlife, plus photography and biology workshops. Guests contribute to active research through partnerships with Oxford, the Norwegian Polar Institute, and more.
The Fleet
HX's fleet is small by design: five purpose-built expedition ships carrying between 90 and 490 guests. Each one named for a polar pioneer. Each one built around the same priority: getting curious travelers close to places that matter.
MS Roald Amundsen and MS Fridtjof Nansen are the world's first hybrid-electric expedition ships. MS Fram, MS Spitsbergen, and MS Santa Cruz II extend the reach, from the Norwegian coast to the Galápagos archipelago, at a scale that lets zodiacs launch quickly and guides know every guest's name by day two.
I.
The Science Center sits at the core of each ship, the knowledge hub where expedition teams, researchers, and guests meet between landings. High-tech equipment, interactive screens, and a library turn transit days into learning days.
II.
Outside-facing cabins, private balconies on roughly half the fleet, aft infinity pools with hot tubs, three restaurants, sauna, spa, and fitness onboard. Built for expedition, outfitted for comfort.
III.
The hybrid flagships cut fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by roughly 20 percent. Single-use plastics are removed across the fleet. Plant-based dining and a 30 percent food-waste reduction goal sit alongside the Green Stay program.
Destinations
Four regions where HX's expedition heritage and science-led approach show up most vividly.
The Seventh Continent
Cross the Drake Passage into a world almost entirely untouched, where the ice moves faster than the clock and the wildlife has no instinct to flee. Zodiac landings among penguin rookeries, kayaking between icebergs, and quiet afternoons on deck watching humpbacks feed.
Seventy Years on Island
Seventy years of HX presence in the archipelago, sailed aboard the 90-guest MS Santa Cruz II with certified local naturalists. Close access to the Big 15 species, from blue-footed boobies to giant tortoises, on a cadence that respects the ecosystem and the guest.
The Real Alaska
Beyond the well-trodden Inside Passage, into the Aleutians, the Bering Sea, and the small fishing communities that the large-ship itineraries can never reach. Glaciers, humpbacks, and indigenous-led cultural landings on the scale that expedition travel was built for.
Arctic & Isles
Norway's home waters, Svalbard's polar-bear country, Greenland's ice-choked fjords, and the cultural tapestry of the British Isles. Arctic beauty paired with the regional knowledge of a Norwegian-founded expedition line that has charted these coastlines for generations.
